Doomguy and Samus Aran- A Tribute

Description

The Doomguy and Samus Aran. Two legends of videogame history.
Laconic badasses, that are confronted by seemingly endless hordes of alien horrors and demons and, somehow, manage to prevail. Samus, trough the use of the superior technology granted by her Power Suit, give to her by an ancient higher race. Doomguy, by indiscriminate use of raw brutality and violence.

Pioneers, by their own right, in their respective genres:

-Samus Aran was the first (or at least, the first truly relevant) female main character of a game, and revolutionized gameplay by consolidating the “Metroidvania” genre (Castlevania jumped into the party later on, though).

-The Doomguy, on the other hand, popularized the concept of the First Person Shooter genre, which, until then was a fledging, obscure type of game, whose starting point can be traced back to the nowadays completely forgotten DOS game Hover Tank 3D, released in the early nineties by ID Software, and their spiritual successors, the “Catacombs” trilogy and the legendary Wolfenstein 3d (considered by many as the first FPS, although that isn't entirely true).
Doomguy, perfecting the gameplay of its predecessors paved the way for the total dominance of these types of games in the market.

Nowadays, it would appear that Samus has aged better than the Doomguy, though. While the Bounty Hunter got a continuous stream of exciting new games in the 2000’s (Fusion, Zero Mission, The Prime Trilogy, and some would also add Other M), Doomguy was left aside and replaced by two different protagonists in Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil, which were great games, but criticized by many old-school fans because they didn’t had the brutal, adrenaline pumping style of Doom and Doom 2.
Despite this, however, not everything’s lost for the Doomguy, as he has been kept alive by the most hardcore fans, which, trough the years, have broken their heads to make bigger and better mods and addons for the original Doom games. Newer source ports have also greatly increased the capabilities of the supposedly obsolete 1994 Doom engine.

Gaming industry owes these two a lot, and they’re also my favourite characters, so here’s my little tribute to them.

Rip and tear!
By the way, the new DOOM's campaign is awesome. I'm going to beat it on Ultra-Nightmare mode (hardest difficulty) for the challenge. Also, I may get the campaign suit (Praetor) in multi-player by doing this!
